# Microsoft sign-in did not finish

What happened, what it means, and what to do next.

The Microsoft sign-in in your browser did not complete, closed early, could not be verified, or
did not grant the mailbox permissions the app needs. Nothing on your computer changed — your
recovered photos stay where they are and your recovery progress is saved.

## What to do
1. Start the Microsoft sign-in again from Snapattic and finish it in the browser window that
   opens.
2. Sign in with a **personal** Microsoft account (Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or MSN). Work or
school Microsoft accounts are not supported.
3. Accept every permission the sign-in asks for. If a permission is declined, the connection
   cannot be completed.
4. If your connection was interrupted, check it and start the sign-in again.

## Good to know
- Snapattic never sees or stores your Microsoft password — the sign-in happens in Microsoft's own
browser window, and only Microsoft-issued mailbox access is kept on this Mac.
- The sign-in is verified against Microsoft's published signing keys before it is accepted. If the
verification does not pass cleanly, the sign-in is refused and you are asked to start again.
- Closing the sign-in window early simply cancels that attempt; you can retry at any time.

## If it keeps failing
Sign in once directly at outlook.com to confirm the account works. If it does but Snapattic still
cannot complete the sign-in, follow the guidance in **[Account type blocked](./account-type-blocked.md)**
and contact support with the error title only — never mail content, credentials, or logs.
