# App password rejected

What happened, what it means, and what to do next.

- [All support guides](/snapattic/support/)
- [Snapattic home](/snapattic/)

Your email address or App Password was not accepted.

## What to do
1. Re-open your Google Account → **Security** → **2-Step Verification** → **App Passwords**.
2. Delete the old App Password and create a **new** one (16 characters).
3. Copy it into Snapattic exactly — no spaces needed, we ignore them.
4. Reconnect.

## Common causes
- A typo, or an extra/missing character.
- The App Password was deleted or expired in your Google Account.
- You pasted your **account** password instead of an **App Password**. We never accept or store your account password.

## Good to know
Snapattic only reads your mail. It never modifies, moves, flags, or deletes anything, and it
connects with an App Password so your account password never leaves your browser. If Gmail says
IMAP is unavailable, see [IMAP access is unavailable](./enable-imap.md).
