# This account type blocks app passwords

What happened, what it means, and what to do next.

- [Snapattic home](/snapattic/)

Some accounts do not allow app passwords, so Snapattic cannot sign in with one:

- **Google Advanced Protection Program** accounts.
- Some **work or school (Google Workspace)** accounts whose admin disabled app passwords or IMAP.

## What to do
- If your personal account uses Advanced Protection, stop here rather than weakening the account's
security. The current Gmail App Password release path does not support that account.
- For a work/school account, ask your administrator whether app passwords and IMAP can be enabled.

## Current boundary

Gmail OAuth/API recovery is staged research, not an enabled recovery path. Do not bypass an
account's security policy or use an account password to make the RC connect.

## Good to know
Snapattic never asks for your account password. If an account can't issue an app password, we
would rather tell you plainly than compromise your security.
